Anyone recall this…

I’ve a bit of an aversion to horror, but I do like horror that has an science fictional aspect and/or a touch of comedy or monsters that have some material base in…er… reality. Some of this shades over to monster films, a genre I do like, in fact only recently realised that I was very fond of. Tremors – for example.

Blood Beach from 1981 was one such. It got terrible reviews, but I liked it. And if you’re keen you’ll find it online to watch at your convenience.

But what’s weird is there is a sub-genre of horror/monster films set on beaches, or with things under the beaches. Actually, that’s probably not that weird, after all part of the frisson of terror of Jaws was the sense of this as a known and collective experience for so many, being down on a beach in sunny weather…
