After two successive top-six finishes, many at Sheffield Wednesday thought it could be third time lucky for the Owls this season as they went for promotion. However, things haven’t gone that way at all. Carlos Carvalhal was sacked in December and Jos Luhukay took over in January but has changed little. The Yorkshire club find themselves 17th and just seven points ahead of the relegation zone after a disastrous season. Whilst a ridiculous injury list is a valid excuse for both Carvalhal and Luhukay it can’t hide the disappointment among everyone at the club. Given that, the Owls may face a battle to keep hold of star players in the summer, one of which is undoubtedly Barry Bannan.
