The Fenian Proclamation (1867) Almost 150 years later…


On the 5th of March next year it will be 150 years since this text was published. The Fenian Proclamation called for an Irish Republic where “justice demands that […] associations should rest upon a basis which maintains equality instead of destroying it” and where “The soil of Ireland, at present in the possession of an oligarchy, belongs to us, the Irish people.” As we approach the 150 years anniversary of such a revolutionary document it’s well worth reading and seeing how not a whole lot has changed in the way of power relations and in terms of inequality.
