I have been working in collaboration in telling the history of indigenous women’s activism in the United States for many years. I have created an archive of all the Native women who were involved in the Red Power Movement and one of the most important connections made was when a member of the American Indian Movement (Madonna Gilbert) was a guest of the Official Sinn Fein in May of 1976 – there are Irish Times articles that places her there from about May 25-31st in Dublin, Belfast and Derry.
I am looking for any and all press clippings but ever more critical for us is finding anyone who might have photographed for filmed it. Madonna recalls doing a sit down TV station interview and being questioned by a English man who she did not like talking to – so that might have been in London before they got to Ireland.
