South Africa issues arrest warrants for four Israeli commanders


  • Rau Aluf Gabriel Ashkenazi, Chief of General Staff

  • Avishay Levi, Head of Airforce intelligence
  • Amos Yadlin, Major General Chief of IDF Military Intelligence

Warrants of arrest have been issued in South Africa against four Israeli commanders from Israel’s Navy and defence force (IDF) responsible for the attacks on the Mavi Marmara.

If they come to South Africa, they’ll be arrested and Interpol Pretoria will arrange their extradition with Turkey.

“This decision has allowed us to hold these commanders, now fugitives from justice responsible to answer for crimes that were committed in the high seas,” says Gadija Davids, the South African journalist who laid the first complaint with the South African Police Services in 2011.
