ONH say water meter workers threat remains

DISSIDENT Republican group (ONH) Oglaigh na hEireann has said it will continue to disrupt the instillation of boundary boxes by NI Water, saying the boxes are being laid in preparation for the intruduction of domestic water meters.

Contractors carrying out work in Glen Parade and Glen Crescent in West Belfast downed tools last Thursday after being threatened. NI Water have said the workmen would not return until they are “assured it is safe to do so” adding that the safety of staff is paramount. ONH said that while “there is no direct threat to workmen we will not stand by and allow the boundary boxes to be installed. “They are the mechanism for the introduction of water meters and a future Stormont water tax to working class families,” the group said. Shame Fein MP Paul Maskey has condemned the threats and said that it should be lifted immediately. “The people of west Belfast won’t accept vital public services being held to ransom by a handful of malcontents”, he said.
