Disturbances as crowds protest at presence of murderer, rapist

SEVERAL hundred people protested in a Co Antrim housing estate about the presence of a convicted murderer and rapist on Tuesday night and demanded that he leave the area.

Former UDA prisoner Trevor Hinton (61), pictured above, was convicted of the 1972 rape of Catholic woman Sarah McClenaghan and the murder of her 15-year-old disabled son David in their north Belfast home, was living with a friend in a house in Crumlin. There were also disturbances outside several other houses. It is understood police made at least one arrest at the scene on Tuesday night. Hinton had been forced to leave his home in the Donegall Pass area of south Belfast earlier this month. He was given a police escort from his house after dozens of women from the area staged a protest.
